Diabetes is a chronic, incurable disease that occurs when the body doesn't produce any or enough insulin, leading to an excess of sugar in the blood.

More than two million Canadians have diabetes. By the end of this decade, it is expected to rise to three million. The financial burden of diabetes and its complications on people with the disease and on the Canadian healthcare system is enormous. The personal costs of diabetes may include a reduced quality of life and the increased likelihood of complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, and amputation.

To date there is no proven way to prevent type 1 diabetes; however, the onset of type 2 diabetes may be prevented or delayed, through increased physical activity and diet. Taking these steps now can lead to a healthier future.

A Better World."

Camp Oki is Canada's first (and only) Summer Camp for children with congenital heart disease. Beginning in 2004 as a long weekend program for children from the pacemaker and defibrillator clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children ("SickKids"), it has grown rapidly. With staff support from the Labatt Family Heart Centre and organizational support from the SickKids Foundation, we now operate a one-week program in Muskoka for children from across Ontario and Quebec with pacemakers and defibrillators, all free to campers and their families. Camp Oki provides a safe and enjoyable recreational opportunity for children who are often "shut out" of mainstream summer camping programs because of misinformation and lack of confidence on the part of camps, parents and patients. With your help, we will achieve our goal to include children with all types of congenital heart disease from all parts of Canada.

Our planet and its habitants are feeling the effects of climate change, thanks to the decades-long burning of fossil fuels for energy. The good news is WWF-Canada is in a unique position to work closely with government and industry to help them fight climate change, while inspiring individuals to take action and change their behavior.

When you help raise money for WWF-Canada you’re helping us use our global reach to find solutions that make a difference and help “speed” up the action on our critical conservation programs.
