Sun Protection

With the rate of skin cancers rising 4% to 5% a year for a total of about 72,000 new cases in Canada, it’s more important than ever to cover up. More than 4,500 of those will be melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Runners and other “outdoor” athletes are more susceptible with an increase risk of skin cancers by up to 400%.

Use a sunscreen whenever you’re outdoors and apply liberally. Pick one that is at least SPF30 and provides both UVA and UVB protection. It’s a good idea if you’re going to be out there for hours to take a small tube with you and reapply regularly.
